Afghanistan never did either. They just have to make it costly enough. Make it long enough. Make it frustrating enough. The Americans will not quit because they are defeated - they will retreat because the price of fighting has painfully exceeded the prize of winning. Exhaustion is a weapon fiercer than any barrel. A wise philosopher once said, the mosquito does not seek to kill the elephant; it only needs to deny him his sleep.
